Detailed Itinerary
Your private driver will pick you up directly from your Fes Riad at 7:30 AM. We head south, leaving the city for the pristine alpine atmosphere of Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco.” We soon enter the dense cedar forests of Azrou, where you can stretch your legs and photograph the wild Barbary macaque monkeys.
After crossing the high plains of Midelt for a relaxed lunch, the landscape dramatically changes as we enter the pre-Saharan routes. We will pause at a breathtaking panoramic viewpoint overlooking the massive Ziz Valley, an emerald sea of palm trees cutting through rugged desert stone. By late afternoon, we arrive at the edge of the Merzouga dunes. Here, you will swap your private vehicle for a camel, trekking into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes to watch an unforgettable sunset. Arrive at your luxury camp for a traditional Moroccan dinner, live Berber drum music around the campfire, and crystal-clear stargazing.
Driving Time: About 7 hours total
Accommodations: Private luxury desert camp tent (with en-suite bathroom)
Meals: Traditional multi-course dinner included
Wake up early to witness a breathtaking Sahara sunrise illuminating the high dune ridges. After a fresh breakfast at the camp, you will head back out of the dunes to reunite with your private driver.
We begin our journey westward, stopping briefly in the historic market town of Rissani before reaching the magnificent Todra Gorge. These massive river canyons feature vertical limestone walls rising over 300 meters high. Enjoy a peaceful walk along the shaded, cool riverbed. In the afternoon, we continue our highly scenic drive into the Dades Valley, winding through incredible rock formations known locally as “monkey fingers,” where we will stop for the night.
Driving Time: About 4.5 hours
Accommodations: Traditional Kasbah or Riad inside the Dades Valley
Meals: Breakfast and Dinner included
After breakfast overlooking the valley, we travel along the spectacular “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” passing through the rose capital of Kalaat M’Gouna and the cinematic hub of Ouarzazate.
By late morning, we arrive at the crown jewel of the south: Ksar Ait Ben Haddou. You will have ample time to explore this spectacular 11th-century clay fortress town, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its striking architecture. After lunch, we begin our dramatic ascent over the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260 meters). The panoramic views of the terraced Berber villages are incredible. We descend into the vibrant plains and arrive in Marrakech by early evening, where your driver will drop you off safely at your Riad or hotel.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we do this Fes to Marrakech tour in 2 days instead of 3?
We strongly advise against it. The driving distance between Fes and Marrakech via the desert is massive. Attempting it in two days means you would spend 8+ hours in the car on Day 1, sleep in the desert, and then face a grueling 10+ hour drive to Marrakech on Day 2 with almost no time to stop at the Todra Gorge or Ait Ben Haddou. Three days is the absolute minimum required to do this route comfortably and safely.
What happens to our heavy luggage during the camel trek?
You do not need to take your heavy suitcases on the camel! Your large luggage will be securely transported directly to the luxury desert camp by a 4×4 support vehicle. You simply pack a small daybag for the camel ride, and your suitcases will be waiting for you inside your tent when you arrive.
Are the luxury desert tents equipped with real bathrooms?
Yes. Our premium desert camp provides maximum comfort. Your private tent will feature a large, comfortable bed, electricity for charging devices, and a fully equipped en-suite bathroom with a hot shower and a western flushing toilet right in the middle of the dunes.
