Detailed Itinerary
We start early with a direct pick-up from your Fes Riad at 7:30 AM to make the most of our day. Heading south, our first brief stop is Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its clean alpine style and steep-eaved roofs. From there, we wind through the dense cedar forests of Azrou, where you can stretch your legs and see the native Barbary macaque monkeys up close.
After crossing the high-altitude plains of Midelt for lunch, the landscape dramatically changes as we enter the pre-Saharan gorges. We will pause at a breathtaking panoramic viewpoint overlooking the vast Ziz Valley, an emerald sea of palm trees cutting through rugged desert stone. By late afternoon, the striking golden waves of Merzouga rise in the distance. Here, you will swap your private vehicle for a friendly camel, trekking into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Watch an unforgettable desert sunset before arriving at your luxury camp for a traditional Moroccan dinner, live Berber music around the campfire, and clear stargazing.
Driving Time: About 7 hours total

Wake up early to catch the serene magic of a Sahara sunrise over the high ridges. After a fresh breakfast at the camp, you will head back out of the dunes (by camel or 4×4) to meet your private driver.
We begin our return journey north, stopping briefly in Erfoud, the fossil capital of Morocco, to see how ancient marine life is uncovered from local marble quarries. We then trace our way back through the scenic Atlas Mountains, stopping for a relaxed lunch along the route. As the landscape transitions back into fertile green valleys, we will arrive back in the vibrant cultural hub of Fes by late afternoon, dropping you safely at your Riad doorstep or the airport.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 7 hours of driving on both days too difficult?
There is no sugarcoating it: this is a fast-paced, driving-heavy tour covering roughly 470 kilometers each way. However, because it is a completely private tour, you are not trapped on a rigid bus schedule. Your driver will pull over whenever you want to snap photos, use the restroom, or grab a coffee, making the long journey highly manageable and comfortable.
Can this 2-day tour drop us off in Marrakech instead of Fes?
Driving from Fes to the desert on Day 1 and then trying to reach Marrakech on Day 2 is not structurally feasible—it would require nearly 10 hours of non-stop mountain driving on the second day, leaving no time to actually see anything. If you want to connect Fes to Marrakech via the desert, we highly recommend booking our 3-Day Desert Tour from Fes to Marrakech instead.
What should I pack for an overnight stay in the desert?
The Sahara experiences dramatic temperature shifts. Even if daytime temperatures are hot, the desert air cools down significantly at night, especially from October through April. Bring a warm jacket or fleece for the campfire, comfortable closed-toe shoes for walking on sand, sunglasses, and a power bank to keep your camera charged.
