Today requires zero driving. After breakfast, you will meet an official, licensed Fes city historian. Step through the Blue Gate (Bab Boujloud) to navigate the largest active medieval city in the world.
Your walking tour covers the intricate tile work of the Bou Inania Madrasa, the historic Al-Qarawiyyin University, and the famous Chouara Tannery, where artisans dye leather using centuries-old methods. You will have the afternoon free to explore the souks at your own pace.

We depart Fes early, ascending into the cooler elevations of the Middle Atlas Mountains. We stop in the ancient cedar forests of Azrou to observe wild Barbary Macaques, then cross the high plains through Midelt.
In the afternoon, the landscape dramatically shifts as we descend into the massive palm oases of the Ziz Valley. Arriving at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga, you will transition from your private vehicle to a camel caravan. Trek into the high sand fields for sunset before arriving at your premium desert camp for a traditional Saharan feast and Berber music around the fire.

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner included.
Wake up early to ascend the dunes and witness a Saharan sunrise. After breakfast, transfer back to the desert edge to rejoin your driver.
We push west across the pre-Saharan hammada, arriving at the Todra Gorge. Here, a crystal-clear river has carved a massive canyon with 300-meter vertical rock walls. Take a shaded walk along the riverbed before continuing through the fossil-rich region of Tinghir. We conclude the day nestled inside the striking rock formations of the Dades Valley.

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner included.
We leave the Dades Valley and travel along the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” passing through the Rose Valley and the cinematic hub of Ouarzazate.
By mid-day, we arrive at the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ksar Ait Ben Haddou, an ancient clay-brick fortress featured in Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After exploring the ksar, we tackle the dramatic, winding switchbacks of the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m) over the High Atlas Mountains, dropping you off directly at your Marrakech Riad in the early evening.

Frequently Asked Questions (7-Day Morocco Tour)
Can we do this 7-day itinerary as a round-trip starting and ending in Marrakech?
Yes. However, attempting to visit Fes, the Sahara, and Marrakech in 7 days as a circular route requires a severe amount of backtracking, resulting in rushed sightseeing. If your flights are strictly round-trip out of Marrakech, we highly recommend our Marrakech to Merzouga Desert loops rather than trying to force Fes into the short timeframe.
Is 7 days enough time to see the Blue City of Chefchaouen as well?
Geographically, no. Chefchaouen sits deep in the northern Rif Mountains. Adding it to this itinerary requires at least 8 to 9 hours of extra driving. If the Blue City is a priority, we recommend extending your trip to a 9-day or 10-day custom itinerary, or skipping the Sahara entirely to focus on the northern imperial cities.
Are the driving days on this tour exhausting?
By utilizing a linear route (Casablanca ➔ Fes ➔ Desert ➔ Marrakech), we drastically minimize road fatigue. The only heavy driving segment is Day 3 (Fes to Merzouga, roughly 7 hours). Because you are traveling in a private, climate-controlled vehicle, you dictate the pacing—stopping for panoramic photos, coffee, and stretching whenever you like.
